Independent Assessment
Glossier has updated the formula of the Clear Lip Gloss since its original release in the 2016 holiday gift set. The formula was originally:
Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Octyldodecanol, Polybutene, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Fragrance, Red 7 Lake (CI 15850), Red 6 (CI 15850)
Lip Gloss Review
This lip gloss is thick, yet deceptively comfortable to wear… as long as you apply a thin layer. It contains conditioning vitamin E in the form of tocopheryl acetate (more susceptible to contamination than traditional tocopherol).
As emollients, it uses hydrogenated polyisobutene (extremely common in potted lip balms) and jojoba oil. Glossier refers to this blend of emollients as Gloss – Lock Technology.
There is a very subtle fragrance to it that will only be irritating to the most sensitive skin and/or nose.
This clear lip gloss is surprisingly enjoyable… mostly because I am not a gloss person (AT ALL)! And it leaves a perfect healthy pink flush after all of the gloss has worn off… hours later. Thanks to Glossier, I am a partial convert.
[Update – 10/26/19]
Glossier has added two new “colors” to their lip gloss repertoire, a red and a holographic.
If you are interested in trying out the red or holographic. They are a cleaner formula and wear the same as the clear formula – goes on smooth and glossy and gets stickier as it wears off, but doesn’t make strings when you pull your lips apart.
The red imparts a healthy looking flush to the lips. I’d definitely choose this over the clear any day.
The jury is out on how shiny the holographic is since we haven’t picked on up to test yet.
